Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 20, 2026
This policy explains what information musicbang collects when you use this music theory learning website, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
We keep data collection to what the service needs to work:
- Account information: the email address and password you provide when you register. Passwords are stored by our authentication provider in hashed form; we never see them.
- Learning progress: levels and practice sets you open, answers, scores, wrong-answer lists, ear-training results and your last activity. Some of this is stored only in your own browser (local storage) and some is linked to your account so it follows you between devices.
- Payment-related information: whether you have an active membership, the plan you bought, and identifiers returned by our payment processor. Full card numbers never reach our servers.
- Cookies and technical data: session cookies or local storage entries needed to keep you signed in and remember your language choice, plus basic technical information such as browser type and error reports used to keep the site working.
2. How we use it
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in or reset your password.
- To unlock the content your plan includes and to save and restore your progress.
- To process purchases and answer billing or support questions.
- To detect misuse, such as account sharing or bulk copying of the question bank, and to fix technical faults.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Third-party services
We rely on a small number of providers that process data strictly to deliver the service:
- Stripe — payment processing. Card details are entered directly in Stripe's checkout and are handled by Stripe under its own privacy policy; we receive only the result of the payment and non-sensitive identifiers.
- Our hosting, database and authentication platform — stores your account record, membership status and saved progress.
- Our transactional email provider — delivers account emails such as sign-up confirmation and password reset messages.
4. Cookies and local storage
We use only what is necessary: an authentication cookie/token so you stay signed in, a language preference, and local storage entries that hold your quiz sessions and progress. Clearing your browser storage will sign you out and may clear locally-saved progress.
5. Data retention
Account and progress data are kept while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account record and learning progress within a reasonable period, except for records we must keep for accounting, tax or fraud-prevention purposes (for example, proof of a purchase).
6. Security
Access to paid content and personal data is enforced on the server with row-level permissions, so each account can read only its own records. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.
7. Your privacy rights (Québec and Canada)
This website is operated from Québec, Canada, and we handle personal information in line with Québec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25) and the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Subject to those laws you may:
- ask for access to the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your account and de-index or delete information where the law allows;
- withdraw consent to non-essential processing, and ask about how information is transferred outside Québec;
- receive your information in a structured, commonly used technical format where portability applies.
Some of our service providers store data outside Québec, including elsewhere in Canada and in the United States or the European Union; in those cases the information may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction. To exercise a right, or to raise a concern with the person responsible for the protection of personal information for this website, write to cassandrapianomtl@gmail.com. If you are not satisfied with our answer you may contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
8. Children
Younger students are welcome to learn with musicbang, but an account and any purchase must be created and managed by a parent, guardian or teacher.
9. Changes
If we update this policy we will change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email.
